The House Will Be In Order by Malina Lobel-karimi

"The House will be in order" were the words uttered as the gavel came down and loud disorderly voices could clearly be heard. "Order" would be the last thing this particular House is doing.

Their Border Bill so far has been killed under the New Management of Kevin McCarthy, yet news is reporting that a vote is still possible.

If I seem confused here, it's because I AM! I've never heard of a bill being killed and yet possible for a vote a few hours later.

A vote of 225-201 DID pass the House for them to proceed with a lawsuit against President Obama for his use of executive orders. Sorry, but again, I find this confusing. EVERY SINGLE president has used "executive orders." Not only that but when you have a recalcitrant, uncooperative and determined to undermine the president, what other options are there? (These are the same folks who want tort reform against senseless lawsuits).

I'm dying of curiosity as to how far a court -any court- will allow this, the mother of all frivolous lawsuits to continue. And what is it that they want to accomplish with it if by chance it should proceed? That all his executive orders be null and void? Is there a dollar value they're suing for? Last but not least, why are WE, the taxpayers footing this bill? Why aren't WE, the taxpayers outraged and insisting that if they choose to proceed with it, let THEM (House members) PAY FOR IT?

Yeah, it's much easier to use OPM (Other Peoples Money).

There is one light at the end of this tunnel. Democratic fundraising is up. Every time a republican makes yet another ridiculous move, a democratic angel gains more money.

Oh, and democratic candidates are ahead in polls but I prefer to ignore ALL polls. I don't want any of us being lulled into a false sense of security and then be blindsided come November.

The History of The League of Women Voters by Laurel Davila

In examining the website of the League of Women Voters (LWV) I learned all kinds of interesting facts. For instance, did you know that Eleanor Roosevelt was the Vice President of the League in the 1920's? The website has a tribute to her with a short clip of her speaking about the very same issues we are discussing today regarding Civil Rights, and the Voting Rights Act. http://library.lwv.org/

Miss Belle Sherwin (see photo below), was President of the National League of Women Voters, and she is shown holding the silver loving cup to be awarded by the National League to the state League showing the greatest percentage in increase of vote of 1924 over 1920.

If you head over to their website be sure to watch the little 50 second video called "Take Control - Vote" which was developed for the League by Discovery Communications as part of their Creating Change program. It is a fast paced video game-like commercial to show you how you may regain your freedom by voting. Very creative and enjoyable. http://library.lwv.org/

Planet of the Apes by Tracy Knauss

Now is the time for all public leaders to stand up and be counted. Where do they stand on global warming, THE most pressing issue of our lifetime? Do they state the facts, or do they lie for political expediency? This says EVERYTHING about a person. S/he who lies for political gain must be ignored and discarded like yesterday's garbage. They are worthless charlatans, selling out the future of our children and grandchildren for their own personal gain. Worthless scum. And this includes the people who finance them, like Charles and David Koch who stand to lose billions if America gets its act together and addresses global warming by banning fracking and by convening a major consortium of our most brilliant, creative minds to develop and implement a plan to transition away from fossil fuels within the next ten years. We did it with Project Apollo, in less than ten years. We landed humans on the moon!! Surely we can put this same can-do spirit of cooperation to task by coming up with workable solutions to the problems we created. Think about it. Ask a scientist. And you'll learn most of them vote for Democrats. They vote BLUE for a blue planet. And for your children's future. And yours. The time is now. Wise up and Rise up. One People. One Planet. Vote BLUE for Earth and you.

Fix The House by JR Gaillott

The 113th Congress has been the least productive and most unpopular in American history -- and we know who is responsible. Since Republicans took control of the US House of Representatives, they have repeatedly blocked progress then blamed Obama.
Just this past Friday, the House refused to take up the veterans aid bill, which passed the Senate 93-3 in a true act of bipartisanship. Every single "no" vote was from a Republican. They refuse to admit government can work in fear it might help Obama.
While the House GOP refuses to do anything that might help our country, they have found time to repeal Obamacare over 50 times, block immigration reform, deny equal pay for women, withhold a raise in the minimum wage, cut food stamps to veterans, cut funding for veteran's hospitals, kill unemployment benefits, obstruct infrastructure funding, reduce embassy security, cut taxes for the wealthy, expand corporate tax loopholes, block student loan reform, deregulate Wall Street, cut school lunch programs, decrease SNAP benefits, deregulate the gas and oil industry... the list keeps going.
Speaker Boehner has devised a simple solution to distract from his failure: sue President Obama. This action has truly opened the door to impeachment, but we can shut that whole thing down. In just 100 days America can fire Boehner and fix the House.
Join us tonight at 8pm Eastern and help trend #FixTheHouse on Twitter.

I Like Being a Congressman by Diana Miller

I like being a Congressman
The job is mighty fine
I only work two days a week

Taxpayers do not whine

I make the laws and write the checks
And help the country run
I Meet the Press & Morning Joe
And maybe shoot a gun

I get to visit ‘round  the world
And never pay a dime
Taxpayers fund my every trip
I’m smiling all the time

My staff  talk to the taxpayers
I’m too busy for that
Lobbyists need all of my time
Get money for a chat

I get to get away with lots
Emptying the coffers
The more I spend the more I get
Taking Lobby offers

I have the power of the state
I control the nation
People die without my vote
While I take a vacation

Hungry children and starving Vets
Their lives depend on me
But businesses don’t want to pay
So I just wait and see

This black man in the White House
Has really made me mad
I sit and stew and do nothing
And make my people sad

But that’s OK, Yes, that’s alright
Big business has my back
While people starve and people die
I fill my money sack

Millions of dollars I rake in
But it doesn’t help the people
Because to get elected now
I have to fool the sheeple

I spend all my time complaining
That the President is wrong
He’s trying to fix the nation
He’s trying to be strong

But that won’t do, no not at all
How dare he do his job
While Congress sits and does nothing
Stirring up a lynch mob

You see, I have the citizens
Wrapped around my fingers
I hide behind Rush, Beck, & Fox
Though the stench still lingers

I have the people where I want
Believing that I care
I smile at them and lie to them
And say, “It’s good, I swear”

And if that doesn’t work for me
I have my own goon squad
I’ll cry & pray & tell them all
That I was sent by God

You see that Christianity
Is good for politicians
God Bless America, Amen
Puts you ahead of competition

I want the sheeple dumb and poor
Uneducated’s best
The less I spend on them, you see,
The more they’ll work for less

If taxpayer’s should get upset
If they should ask for more
I’ll simply tell them we can’t help
And start another war

If taxpayers ever catch on
It still won’t hurt me, see
When I leave here I’ll have a job
Working for a Lobby

I like being a Congressman
This job, it has its perks
I lie and steal from everyone
And you’re the one who works

GOP KILLING CONGRESS AND OUR NATION by Tracy Knauss

The approval rating of Congress has dipped into single digits, its lowest in history, because this Congress has approved less legislation than any Congress in history! This "Do Nothing" Congress is the product of the "Stupid Party." This is NOT the fault of both parties, but of Republicans. In their article "Yes, Congress is that bad," respected Congressional historians THOMAS MAN and NORMAN ORNSTEIN declared, "We have been studying Washington politics and Congress for more than 40 years, and never have we seen them this dysfunctional. In our past writings, we have criticized both parties when we believed it was warranted. Today, however, we have no choice but to acknowledge that the core of the problem lies with the Republican Party." And there you have it. If you want to help our nation recover its former status in terms of opportunity, justice, etc, vote DEMOCRATIC this November.

A Veterans Cemetery and Memorial by Drew Leavens For Congress - 45th CD California

The hard work of so many paid off last night as the Irvine City Council voted 5-0 to move forward on a veterans cemetery and memorial in the Great Park. The project, unanimously supported among veterans and the community at large ran the risk of being victimized by politics. So many veterans and non-veterans alike stood up in solidarity over a proposal that became too much of a mandate to ignore. While ground for the project likely won't be broken until 2018, what a great moment that will be!

Congratulations and kudos go out to so many people. But it is especially important to recognize Assemblywoman Sharon Quirk-Silva for initiating the proposal at the state level and garnering 100% support among fellow lawmakers. Council member Larry Agran brought the proposal forward and advocated on the local level and Council member Beth Krom showed steadfast support. Finally, I can't speak more highly of the contributions of Bill Cook, Chairman of the OCVMP Committee and Commander of the 29th District American Legion. Bill kept everybody informed and motivated and was the leader of a grassroots effort that simply wouldn't accept no for an answer. Thank you all for proving that, with enough effort, the voices of citizens must still be recognized and heard by government representatives. Now, if we can just do the same on the national level...

What We Should Be Doing For Our Campaign by Sharon Newell Holle

Weekly phone banking with weekend of action:

Here in Iowa, our County Democrats are hosting weekly phone banking. Contact your County Democratic Party to see if they are holding phone banks in your area.

Phone Banking:

During phone banking you should be calling folks to:

1. Persuade non-voters to vote this election cycle

2. Sign people up to volunteer

3. Register people to vote

4. Register people to vote by mail

5. Polling people to identify supporters for your candidates

Door Knocking:

1. Hand out literature with educational information about your Democratic Candidates

2. Sign people up to vote

3. Sign people up to register to vote

4. Sign people up for Vote By Mail ballot

5. Sign people up to volunteer for the campaign

Weekend of Action:

On selected weekends the County Party will hold Weekends of Action.

Weekends of Action consist of two full days of Phone Banking and Literature Drop offs in targeted neighborhoods. Each weekend that these events are held there will be a different agenda and targeted voters.

• Sign up for a Weekend of Action through your County
Democratic Party

• Sign up for a specific day and time that you would come to volunteer

• Select the type of work you wish to do on your day of volunteer

• Phone banking

• Door Knocking and literature drop off

Holiday Parades:

Sign up to walk in holiday parades with your County Democrats. Political candidates need people to walk with them in parades. If you volunteer to walk in support of a specific candidate they may ask you to wear one of their t-shirts bearing their name and logo. If they don’t have t-shirts for you to wear they may ask you to carry one of their planks with their name. You may choose to walk simply as a Democrat with the Democratic Party. Either way you are volunteering your time to help out your party and it is much appreciated.

Meet and Greet Parties and Fundraisers for Primary Candidates—House Party Fundraisers for Incumbents:

Now that the campaigns have started to pick up pace you may want to get involved in helping plan/attend a Meet and Greet for those candidates that are in a Primary election. We hold Meet and Greets for the public to come and meet the candidate, ask questions and listen to them speak. These events help constituents decide which candidate they will support in the general election. Often the Press will be invited to come to help give the candidate media exposure. Donations are always accepted at these events. You can contact your County Democrats for information on how you can get involved.

House Parties for Incumbents:

The Incumbent candidate is up for re-election and wishes to win back his/her held seat. Now is time for fundraising in order to keep up with their opponents. House Parties are usually held at a volunteer’s house. Sometimes people will rent out large party rooms or picnic areas to hold a fundraiser for their favorite candidate. Often the Press will be invited to come to help give the candidate media exposure. If you would like to hold a house party for your favorite political candidate, volunteer through your County Democrats. They will be happy to help you plan and set up your event to make sure that it is a success. Your favorite candidate will be forever grateful for your generous contribution to their campaign.

Donate:

Political candidates need money for funding their campaign travels, office, equipment, media, and staff. Any dollar amount of money that you can afford to give is greatly appreciated.

If you do not wish to volunteer or you simply cannot volunteer, there are many ways that you can help your Democratic Campaign out without working!

1. Donate office items. All Campaign offices need office items and your donations really help them out a lot! This is a great way to volunteer on your campaign; offices cannot function without adequate supplies! You may donate office items either by purchasing a gift certificate from an office supply store, or by purchasing the office items yourself and delivering them to the office.

2. Donate food. All campaign offices need food for their staff and volunteers who come in to the office on a daily basis get hungry while they work. If you would like to donate food and drinks to your campaign office it would be greatly appreciated and a GREAT way to volunteer for your campaign. Here again, gift certificates, catering, or your own baked goods are always very much appreciated by your campaign staff and volunteers. Paper plates, napkins, paper towels, paper cups, eating utensils are also needed for the office.

3. Cleaning the office. Cleaning the campaign office and helping to keep it tidy is another way that you can volunteer. Campaign offices are very busy all of the time and they get cluttered quickly. If you are a person that is willing to help keep the office looking neat and clean while the others are working it is greatly appreciated by the busy staff and volunteers. After all, an office works more efficiently when things are in order!
Thank you so much for all of your help and support! We cannot win an election without the help of everyone pitching in and doing their part.

Bottom Line:

According to expert economists Robert Reich, and Paul Krugman, our country's government is not an Oligarchy yet, however we are heading that way. If we do not give our President a Congress that will work with him this November, we could possibly lose our country to big business owners like the Koch brothers. The bottom line in this year’s election is down to this,” Who do we want to be in control of our government?” Do we want to keep the power that our founding fathers gave to us, or do we let big business have it? I for one choose, “We the People.”

Let’s give our President a Congress that will work with him and for the people! VOTE DEMOCRAT in November!!

Conscience and Courage by Tracy Knauss

When we think about the many wrongs needing righting in America today, the name Ida B. Wells comes to mind. If she were still alive, she'd be leading protests against our Supreme Court's decisions favoring corporations over "we the people." She'd be marching against income inequality and voter suppression. Ms. Wells was a person of courage, compassion and conscience. She had the conviction to face her tormentors and call them out. She was a person of the people, the 99%. She opposed acts of violence against minorities. And she risked her life exposing such hatred. Today, more than ever, we need people like her to stand up against the corporate bullies and the Supreme Court fascists who threaten the very foundation of our civilization.

Nudge Nudge Wink Wink Mitch by Diane Straub

Nudge Nudge Wink Wink Mitch By Diane Straub Mitch McConnell has a message for his female and student constituents. Except he really doesn't want you to HEAR it..he just wants you to FEEL it come January because he is ultra-confident you will return him to his position of honor as a US Senator and Senate Minority leader. In the grand tradition of his party he has been caught on tape saying to a few in private what he would not dare utter in public. As Monty Python would say "Nudge, Nudge, Wink, Wink!" "McConnell smugly informed voters in Buckner, Kentucky that 50% of women voted for him last time and he gave them no preferential treatment so hey. It’s in the bag." (Politicususa) Hey! What do you know? Mitch further opined on the tape obtained by Leo Weekly that women have it pretty darned great right now and declared sexism pretty much over... “We’ve come a long way… in pay equity and uh… there are a ton of women CEO’s now running major companies…” (Politicsususa) So, Ole Mitch is basically saying that women's issues are not on his radar screen. He figures he has the 50% female vote all locked up and he doesn't even have to promise to address equal pay or women's health or ERA or violence against women..none of that. He can just go back to being the huge turtle shaped doorstop in front of this President and by gum, if need be the next. As Jon Stewart says "Yup, Yup, Yup..." It isn't just women that get the full measure of Mitch's voracious apathy. Students and their obstacle of affording the spiking cost of attending college and the attendant massive, unforgivable debt they incur are also NOT on his radar screen. “I think more competition and shopping around for college alternatives is a pretty good idea. This comes from a guy who’s financed three daughters at out-of-state schools.” “I think the best short term solution is for parents to be very cost conscious in shopping around for higher education alternatives.” “Not everybody needs to go to Yale.” (Politicsususa) Hmmm..I've heard this sentiment somewhere before.. Danny Noonan: I planned to go to law school after I graduated, but it looks like my folks won't have enough money to put me through college. Judge Smails: Well, the world needs ditch diggers, too. (Caddyshack IMDB) Wow! Judge Smails would have loved Mitch McConnell! Talk about two hearts beating as one. You have hopes and dreams? Well, take a page from the Mitchster..he's paying for HIS daughters. You don't have the money but you have a 150 IQ? Not everybody can go to Yale..the world needs ditch diggers and people to clean pools and dressage horses too.. "American politician, Mitch McConnell has an estimated net worth of $9.8 million, nearly a 30% increase from 2010." (therichest.com) What's that you say? Your parents don't have a net worth of $9.8 Million? That is unfortunate..but Mitch has let you know that he has his family covered and your problems just aren't his concern..he has his own problems trying to get reelected and hopefully he can gain another 30% of net worth in the next 4 years. Mitch's opponent, Alison Lundergan Grimes is a study in contrast to the Mitch ALEC & Koch agenda. She is a champion in the fight for equal pay, women's health, violence against women legislation, education, seniors, energy policy, Social Security, Medicare and Middle Class issues. Read up on her campaign and her take on the issues here: http://alisonforkentucky.com/on-the-issues/ We do not have more time to whittle away on legislators who refuse to legislate and who refuse to acknowledge the painful and difficult realities facing the American people at all ages and in all walks of life. Let's not make the mistake of making elected office in the United States an entitlement that is bestowed on the candidate with the most money for nasty and misleading attack ads. It is our futures and the futures of our children we are handing over when we are too lethargic to understand the issues and choices in our election process. Vote for the candidate that remembers YOU the Wednesday after the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.

Yellow Dog Democrat by Laurel Davila

Just made a new friend on Facebook. I've taken to scrutinizing their political views...well because ... you know me! Anyway, her 'Political' section in her 'About' in the Facebook profile says: "Yellow dog Democrat, born that way; will die that way." YAY! Takes one to know one! Welcome aboard to my wall my new found Facebook friend, and you know who you are! For those who do not know the difference between a Blue Dog Democrat, and a Yellow Dog Democrat, understand that a Yellow Dog is Left of a Blue Dog when it comes to certain issues in the Democratic Party Platform. Blue Dogs sometimes vote with the Republican Party. But with that being said, a Blue Dog Democrat is one hell of a better politician, in my book, than any callous, racist, xenophobic, woman hating, homophobic, theocracy loving, lying, thieving Red Republican.
(This post is in memory of Aziz Anis, may you R.I.P. my Yellow Dog Democrat brother.)

Obama Slams Speaker Boehner & His Do Nothing Congress by Tracy Knauss

When you have a first class intellect like President Obama, and you're fighting the worst "Do Nothing Congress" in history, largely as a result of House Speaker John Boehner's poor leadership, it's easy to smack down the competition, to call them out publicly, because they are indeed the "Stupid Party." Because Boehner has been opposing everything substantive our president has proposed, the Speaker now has egg on his face, indeed an entire large egg souffle. Boehner is suing the president for not implementing "Obamacare fast enough" even though the House voted 52 times to kill it! Today our POTUS put Boehner and his do nothing Congress in their place. And he did it with style and pizazz. Here's the link: http://www.occupydemocrats.com/watch-pres-obama-tells-it-like-it-is-maybe-its-just-me-they-dont-like/

Hobby Lobby Women Employee's Emergency Kit by Tracy Knauss

This is the harsh reality of a landmark decision last week made by the five Republican/Male/Catholic justices on the Supreme Court. They approved men's access to Viagra and similar products while denying women the choice of the range of products available for their health care. All because the religious zealots at Hobby Lobby didn't want these women's products to be covered on their company insurance plans. The five Republican men on the Supreme Court, also zealots, agreed with them. Although Justice Samuel Alito, who wrote the majority decision, said it was "narrow," the next day the court walked that back saying it was general and broad. One of their decisions the following day confirmed just that, as they expanded the ruling even more. It's all about money, power and control over women, masquerading as "religious rights" of "corporations as people" itself an oxymoron decided by moron oxen on the highest court.

History Repeats Itself by Laurel Davila

I'm not one much given for knee-jerking with the mainstream media. They would have me giving attention to this, or that issue, blowing attention way out of proportion with the truth of any given situation. It is unfortunate that we have to scrutinize the news sources for their credibility these days, since most sensationalize quite a bit for their corporate sponsors.

The latest blow up in the corporate news media is about the influx of refugee children coming into the United States through the Mexican border.

The governmental website for the Border Patrol has a plethora of information regarding illegal immigration. There I found the below excerpt which I am passing along to you in hopes that we can all take a deep breath, and know that we have successfully dealt with this problem before, and we can surely deal with it again. The Republicans in Congress must appropriate the necessary funds for the Border Patrol; and then the Administration (President) may take care of the problem, just like we have done so in the past.

Here is the excerpt:

"As illegal immigration continued along the Mexican border, sixty-two Canadian border units were transferred south for a large-scale repatriation effort. In 1952, the government airlifted 52,000 illegal immigrants back to the Mexican interior. The program was terminated after it ran out of funds during its first year. The Mexican government offered train rides into the Mexican interior for nationals being returned from the San Antonio and Los Angeles districts, but this program was halted after only five months. Throughout the early 1950s, a special taskforce of 800 Border Patrol agents was assigned by the United States Attorney General to round up and ship home thousands of illegal immigrants in southern California. The task force moved to the lower Rio Grande valley, then to Chicago and other interior cities. The Border Patrol began expelling adult Mexican males by boatlift from Port Isabel, Texas, to Vera Cruz in September 1954. The project was discontinued two years later after nearly 50,000 illegal aliens had been returned home. Various other flights, train trips, and bus trips originated along the border and terminated in the Mexican interior. In spite of the major successes in repatriation, many deportees simply turned around and recrossed the seriously undermanned border. Repatriation programs proved extremely expensive and were phased out primarily because of cost.
Significant numbers of illegal aliens began entering the U.S. on private aircraft in the late 1950s. In cooperation with other federal services, the Border Patrol began tracking suspect flights. During the Cuban missile crisis of the early 1960s, Cuban defectors living in Florida flew aircraft out over the ocean in an effort to harass their former homeland. The American government made this harassment illegal, and assigned the Border Patrol to prevent unauthorized flights. The Patrol added 155 officers, but discharged 122 of them when the crisis ended in 1963."

Tonight's Twitterbomb Tuesday! by Committee to Elect Jason Ritchie

On the June 27th broadcast of the comedy-news program Real Time on HBO, host Bill Maher announced that Jason Ritchie's opponent, Rep. Dave Reichert has been selected as a contestant in the program’s Flip A District competition!

With the Flip a District contest, Maher aims to seek out “terrible, entrenched congressmen” from across the country, choose one of them, and “throw him into the national spotlight” in the hopes of flipping a long-time red district to blue in the 2014 election.
The final four congressmen to compete in Flip A District will be announced on Real Time this Friday, July 11th!

If we can get Dave Reichert into the Final Four, it would be a tremendous boost for Jason's campaign. And to get Bill Maher's attention, we're going to need your help. We're asking supporters to use BOTH #FlipADistrict and #WA8 in their tweets tonight. We're encouraging people to use both hashtags on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram between now and Friday, but especially on Twitter tonight starting at 6 pm (PST) as we try to get #WA8 to trend.

Both tweets and retweets are factored into trending topics, so you can either come up with tweets of your own, or you can simply hit RT on any tweets including both hashtags.

Use the below link for a few examples of tweets using both #FlipADistrict and #WA8.

Supreme Disappointment by Tracy Knauss

Americans used to respect the Supreme Court. But not anymore. Not since they made corporations into people, gave corporations religious rights, removed limits on campaign spending and voted against women's rights. This Gang of Five Republicans has a front row seat on America's destruction. They put profit over people and greed over need. The four Liberal judges are out voted 5-4 on the most critical decisions. Wake up America! Like George Carlin declared, "The American Dream is only true if you're asleep."
